West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose has filed a defamation case against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Calcutta High Court on Friday. Mamata Banerjee had made a comment on C.V. Anand Bose on Thursday. Mamata had said that women have complained to her that they are afraid to go to the Raj Bhavan due to recent incidents there. Anand Bose has filed a defamation case against Mamata for this statement.

According to the source, the governor had earlier in the day criticised Banerjee’s remarks, saying public representatives are expected not to make “false and defamatory assumptions”. The governor has filed a defamation case against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders for making similar remarks against him, the source said.

What did Mamata say?

During an administrative meeting at the state secretariat, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday claimed that “women have complained to me that they are afraid to go to Raj Bhavan due to recent incidents there.” The source said, “Governor C.V. Anand Bose on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court and filed a defamation case against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party leaders for the remarks made against him.” A contract woman employee of Raj Bhavan had accused Governor Bose of molestation on May 2, after which Kolkata Police started investigating the matter.

Raj Bhavan had criticized

Amid the deadlock over the swearing-in of two newly elected Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs, West Bengal Governor C V Anand Bose’s office on Friday criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her statement that women allegedly feel unsafe visiting the Raj Bhavan. The Raj Bhavan had said that public representatives are expected not to create “wrong impressions”.
