Now there is no ban on Hijab in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah said – wear and eat whatever you want
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced the removal of the ban on hijab in the state. He has said that now there is no ban on hijab in the state. Siddaramaiah has said that his government will take back the decision of the previous BJP government. Let us tell you that in the month of February last year, the then BJP government had banned the wearing of hijab by girl students in educational institutions in Karnataka. The government had argued that clothes that disturb equality and integrity should not be worn.
We will withdraw that decision- Siddaramaiah
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said on the ban on hijab in the state- "We will withdraw that decision, now there is no ban on hijab. Women can go out wearing hijab. I have asked the officials to withdraw the order (previous government order). And eating food is our choice, why should I object? Wear whatever dress you want, eat whatever you want, why would I care? We should not do politics to get votes, we do not do that."
The matter also went to the High Court
The controversy over hijab in Karnataka started from Udupi district. After this, large scale demonstrations were held in many other areas. After this the matter went to the High Court where after a long hearing the verdict was in favor of the then BJP government. The court had said that wearing hijab is not an essential religious practice of Islam. The court had also given instructions to follow uniform dress rules in the educational institutions of the state.
