This Saturday, October 14, the world will experience the first of two eclipses occurring this month, the first being a solar eclipse and the second, on October 28, being a lunar eclipse, which will be witnessed by Australians.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, therefore blocking the view and light of the Sun on Earth who are lucky enough to be in a prime location to see it. During a solar eclipse, the Moon’s diameter is smaller than that of the Sun, creating the illusion of a ring of sunlight around the edges often referred to as the ‘Ring of Fire’.
