Singapore: Air China plane makes emergency landing after engine catches fire, 9 people injured

New Delhi: On Sunday, An Air China flight made an emergency landing in busy Changi Airport of Singapore after its engine caught fire. Nine passengers sustained minor injuries of 155 people on board flight due to smoke inhalation and abrasions during the evacuation process.
In a statement on Facebook, Changi Airport said that Flight CA403 from the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu “encountered smoke in the forward cargo hold and lavatory” while on its way to the city-state.

Changi Airport further said that the plane landed at around 4:15 pm (0815 GMT) and “all passengers and crew have evacuated safely.” It added, “The fire in the left engine has been put out.”
A video clip posted on X, showed passengers exiting what appeared to be the stricken aircraft down an emergency slide onto the tarmac. The airbus A320 aircraft, which flew from Tianfu International Airport at 11:05 am, landed at Changi’s Runway 3 at around 4:15 pm, with all passengers and crew members evacuated safely.
CAAS said that the runway was closed briefly and one aircraft was diverted to the nearby island of Batam in Indonesia. Earlier, Changi Airport said that flight operations might be affected and advised passengers to check its website or app for the latest information on their flights. It said the Transport Safety Investigation Bureau was investigating the incident and has contacted its Chinese counterpart to help.
