Justin Trudeau’s Decision to Wait After Plane Breakdown in India
A recent report alleges that New Delhi extended an offer to facilitate the departure of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after his plane encountered technical issues. During his two-day delay in India due to an aircraft malfunction, news reports indicate that New Delhi proposed the use of Air India One to assist Trudeau’s departure. However, the Canadian delegation opted to wait for the arrival of a replacement aircraft.
Originally, Trudeau and his team were scheduled to depart India on Sunday evening following the conclusion of the G-20 event in New Delhi. Ultimately, they were able to resume their journey on Tuesday afternoon after the replacement aircraft arrived to address the technical glitch.
The reports of the Canadian side declining India’s offer come at a time when relations between India and Canada have become strained, primarily due to the Khalistan issue. During their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit, Prime Minister Modi raised concerns regarding Khalistan with Trudeau. Modi emphasized the critical role of mutual respect and trust in advancing bilateral ties between the two countries.
In a parallel development, Sikhs for Justice organized a Khalistan referendum at a gurdwara in British Columbia, further contributing to the complexities surrounding the issue.
The incident involving Justin Trudeau’s plane unfolded:
An Airbus A310, carrying Prime Minister Trudeau and other government officials, experienced a technical issue that prevented it from taking off on its scheduled departure day, which was Sunday. As a result of this snag, an alternative arrangement could only be finalized on Monday, allowing Trudeau and his delegation to finally depart on Tuesday.
This technical glitch garnered significant attention and controversy back in Canada, further amplifying the challenges faced during his trip to India.
Justin Trudeau had to stay in a hotel in India without any official engagement:
Due to the unforeseen delay, Prime Minister Trudeau had to remain in India without any official engagements. During this period, there were no scheduled events at the local high commission. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar was assigned the task of receiving and seeing off the Canadian delegation during their stay in India.
During the entirety of the extended trip, both Prime Minister Trudeau and his son, Xavier Trudeau, stayed at Hotel Lalit.
Xavier Trudeau also accompanied his father during his visit to Jakarta, where the Canadian Prime Minister participated in the ASEAN-Canada summit.
After returning home, Justin Trudeau expressed his commitment to serving Canadians, highlighting their focus during the week spent working with leaders and partners at the @ASEAN Summit in Singapore and the @G20org Summit. Trudeau shared his sentiments in a tweet and posted a video reflecting on these international engagements.
No matter where we go, our focus continues to be on delivering for Canadians. That was true this past week, when we worked with leaders and partners at the @ASEAN Summit, in Singapore, and at the @G20org Summit. More on that here: pic.twitter.com/SAGaCVrxCk
