Small budget ‘The Kerala Story’ beats mega budget films
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar had a lifetime collection of Rs 147.28 crore. So far this film was the second highest grosser of the year after Pathaan. At number three was Salman Khan’s film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
The initial figures of Salman’s film were fine, but after the end of the weekend, its earnings slowed down considerably. Made in a budget of 180 crores, this film has so far earned only 109.29 crores. Although this film was released on 5000 screens across India. At the same time, The Kerala Story was initially released on only 1300 screens. Now The Kerala Story has beaten both these mega budget films within 12 days.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the movie and made it tax-free in Uttar Pradesh, The Kerala Story has been called a propaganda piece by opposition leaders, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also banned the film in her state. Tamil Nadu multiplex owners have also stopped the film’s screenings.
The Kerala Story has been released in a total of 37 countries including America, Australia, Canada and Ireland. The film has been released across 200 screens in the US and Canada. According to the information, the film has so far collected Rs 5 crore in Overseas.
‘The Kerala Story’ has joined the club of 150 crores. Looking at the pace at which the film is earning, the makers are hopeful of joining the 200 crore club by this weekend.
